What Can We Say ? - 23 Month Update

It's been a while since I've put an update about the kids milestones. The biggest change is how much they are talking and absorbing. They are little sponges and have started to link words together to form short sentences (2-4 words) which is very exciting. Hailey seems to really be grasping sentences, but Hunter is not far behind.

They both have trouble making a few words clear and it is hard not to go along with what they call certain things. We consistently need to remind ourselves to call whatever it is they are trying to say by what it really is (even if WeeWee sounds better than Smoothie LOL).

Below is a list of words and sentences they are putting together.

Hailey
"What (are you) doing Momma/Dada?"
"Hunters night night" - this is one of my favorites. She still puts an S at the end of Hunter's name
"Shhh" - with finger over her mouth
"What's that?"
"You ok Momma/Dada?"
Airplane
Blankie (or "My blankie")
" My____" (insert numerous items after)
"Your____" (insert numerous items after)
Duck- this almost always is a bird and not a duck

Olaf
"No Hunters" - this is typically in response to him asking her something

Yes - This isn't typical. She opts for Yeah more than Yes
Bubbles
Cheeeeesseee - when taking a picture. She will often times kneel down because that is what I do when I take a picture of her. She's associated kneeling with picture taking i guess.

Along with saying the below she also points out these body parts
Hair
Eyes
Head
Nose
Cheeks
Belly
Knees
Toes
Fingers
Tongue

Hunter
"WOW" - typically in response to bodily functions :)

Belly

These are just the words they recognize on their own. If we ask them to say a word, they can typically replicate it, but if it is more than 2 syllables it can get dicey...

Both kids can also point out a couple dozen animals and when we ask what sound they make, they know, Moo, Meow (Hailey says Me-Now), Ruff Ruff (Hunter has this down and will even howl, but Hailey will say psfff, psfff), Rawwrrr (this is for many animals include bears, lions, tigers and also mommy and daddy), Hoo Hoo -owl, OH OH - monkey, Neighhhh - horse.

The kids also both follow simple instructions. Their favorite seems to be corner time :) In fact if they are doing something bad I will ask if they want to go to the corner. Sometimes Hailey gets sassy and says yes (you can imagine how quickly she ends up there too), but most of the time they stop doing what they are doing. After corner time, they have to say sorry to whoever they did something too, give a hug and give a kiss. They follow these instructions or end up back in the corner.
Many times they will take things to one another if we ask them to (sippy cups and food).

The best part about this age is that they start to remember people and will ask about them. Grandma, Grandpa, Papa and Alex are the most talked about people in our house. If i ask them if they want to see any of them they definitely think about it and then will say YES! We're working on all of our cousins names as well as Auntie. Those are proving to take some time.

Physically both kids are climbing, running, walking up and down stairs, and even jumping. It is rare that we see both feet come off the ground but it has happened more than once now so it's not a fluke! They will both rub our backs if they accidentally hurt us (or each other) and will tell the other "Night Night" and put a blanket on them. This has turned into a game.

Sleep has been great as long as we are home in our normal environment. They both sleep the entire night and VERY rarely do they wake in the middle of the night. We have 2 GREAT sleepers and I couldn't be more happy that we put our sleep routine together at 5 months old. It was hard but the best thing we could've done. They both still sleep with sound machines, but their projectors are no longer on. We recently introduced new toddler pillows as well which they are doing great with.
