...but the kids had another plan...
The day started off great! We headed out to the ferry in Anacortes and the kids ran around like crazy while we waited.
We even had some fun waiting in the car (un-buckled) ! It was like they knew they were getting away with something!
Once we got on the ferry we only sat for a quick moment before the kids were off exploring!
Hunter found a puddle outside and decided it was a good idea to jump in it... with his ONLY pair of shoes that fit him right now. So, they dried on the drive from the ferry to the campsite.
We stopped for a few items at the grocery store ...
And then headed to the park by the lake! The kids had a blast climbing all over the place and testing out all the slides.
After a fun time running around we headed to the campsite so the kids could get familiar with their surroundings (hoping for a smooth rest of the day ).
The rest of the family showed up not long after we had gotten there and they all helped put up tents!
Once the tents were up, Hunter 'washed' (swept) out the tent for us and then proceed to dump his popcorn all over the floor... ugh
And by this point it was about 2 hrs after their normal nap time so we tried to get them to have some quiet time. We turned Frozen on the IPADS and set up their cots to relax...
.. but that didn't work out so well. Both kids started getting past the cranky point and were screaming! We packed them up and got in the car to try and get them to nap... they screamed for the next two hours straight until we decided that there was NO WAY we were going to deal with that AND keep everyone up at the campsite.
So, we rented a room... I shouldn't say room, it was a 'suite' that came along with a nice price tag for 2 nights. But, we knew they did well at the same hotel last year so it was a sure bet, right?
We checked into the room (still with screaming, kicking, and hitting toddlers!) and tried to make the most of it.
The kids ran around until we decided we'd better got get dinner. Maybe that was why they were so cranky??
We headed to a Mexican restaurant we had gone to last year and sat outside. The kids were fine for the most part (maybe because we were shoving beans and chips in their mouths so they'd stay quiet? I can't say for sure).
Mommy sure needed this!!
and then... while Hunter was drinking water like a big kid I saw it. A MOLAR!!! That's gotta be the reason!
After a quick bite to eat we decided to continue to distract the kids and get every ounce of energy out we could so we walked down to the little beach in front of the hotel and looked at the pretty view.
And then we headed back to the room, set up the pack and plays, covered the window with a blanket to get the light out and guess who didn't want to go to sleep? Little Miss Hailey Lynn... ugh. Hunter had laid down and was ready to go to bed but Hailey kept popping her little head over her pack and play to say "HI HUNTERS !!!!" Which totally threw off any chance at sleep. The way the room was set up it didn't allow for us to have them separated like they are at home.
We tried EVERYTHING.
Sleeping in bed with mommy and daddy? NOPE.
Running out energy in the room? NOPE.
Pulling out the Murphy bed from the couch and having us sleep closer to them? NOPE.
Finally around 9pm we were done. The constant screaming and crying threw us over the edge and we packed everything up and drove to catch the ferry. We figured we could make it home and they could sleep in the car.
We got to the ferry terminal and guess what? We missed the ferry by 30 seconds!! This day just kept getting worse. Another 2 hrs before the next ferry.
Mommy started balling! It was the most stressful night we've had with the kids hands down. After trying so hard to have a great weekend and spending a ton of money, I had had it. Thankfully daddy talked me into going back to the room and going to bed. By this point the kids were sound asleep in the car so we picked them up and put them in their pack and plays back at the hotel room and THANKFULLY they didn't wake up.
Daddy unpacked the car... again.
Thinking we'd be able to make the most of it the next day, we both went to bed... not to be woken up 20 mins later to screaming kids. And it continued ALL night. Mommy got up about 8 or 9 times to calm down each of the kids and get them back to sleep.
And guess who woke up at 4am? Both kids.
That was it... we had tried and tried and we were over it. So we packed up the car (again), headed to the campsite in the pouring rain to get the rest of our stuff (and try not to wake everyone up) while the kids were going off in the backseat.
We got to the ferry terminal and got in the 'stand by' lane praying we'd catch the next ferry. As the cars started loaded on the boat, lane 1 leaves, lane 2 leaves, lane 3 leaves.... ok its our turn!!! we might make it!!
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!! 2 cars in front of us is dead- hood up and everything. The ferry traffic director takes lane 5!! WAIT A MINUTE!
Mommy was NOT going to miss this ferry so I pulled out in front of a few cars (cars that by the way had JUST gotten there after we had waited over an hr)....
and for the first time that weekend, something went our way. We were the 2nd to the last car on the ferry. THANK GOD!
I've never been so happy in my life to get on a ferry.
As we drove home the kids napped and we finally pulled up to our house....
And guess what? The garage door was open the entire time...
I looked at Michael and he looked at me and it was as if we were in a bad dream that would not end.
Thankfully, nothing was taken and everything was in it's place. Glad to know we live in a safe neighborhood, but shocked none of our neighbors messaged us...probably because the truck was at home?
That night, we all fell asleep by 7pm and didn't wake up for another 12 hrs.
What an eventful few days.
